2022: 100 Years
On September 24, 2022, at 9 a.m, students, faculty, staff, and community members from Weber State University met at the base of Snowbasin Ski Resort to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Mt. Ogden Hike. The event was surrounded by fanfare with the band, spirit squad, and Waldo the Wildcat sending hikers off with the school fight song.
Participants of the 100th-anniversary hike could choose one of several hiking options. The hike starting at Snowbasin offered three 7-mile roundtrip hikes for varying skill levels, and one 2.8-mile roundtrip hike to the summit via Gondola assistance. Hikers could also choose to summit the mountain via a 12-mile round trip hike up Beus Canyon or the traditional 10-mile round trip hike from Taylors Canyon and Malan's Peak.
However participants reached the summit hikers reached the saddle of Mt. Ogden around 1:30 p.m. Where a program was hosted with remarks from President Brad Mortensen, alumni Tom Welch, and current student body president Ashley Potokar. At the program a new plaque commemorating the 100th-Anniversary was unvield to be placed at the mountain peak. The program ended with the signing of the school fight song and the school song "Purple and White".
After the program over 200 weary hikers made their way down the mountain via the Gondola and back home. Successfully completing another year of the Mt. Ogden hike tradition. A tradition with a long history of the people of Weber State coming together to test their limits and accomplish the goals of climbing ever upward.
