Ogden Pride, 2015
Ogden Pride was first organized on October 11, 2014, National Coming Out Day. It was the first Pride organization in Ogden and only the fourth in the state. Their goal is to offer support to the LGBTQ+ community, individuals, and their families in Northern Utah.
Plans for their first festival were quickly formed after the group was organized. The group wanted to create a family-friendly atmosphere for the people of Northern Utah. The first Ogden Pride Festival was held on August 1, 2015, in the Ogden Amphitheater. The festival included booths for vendors and non-profits focused on the LGBTQ+ community. They also organized a springtime fun run and pride poetry competitions.
In 2017 the festival had over 3,500 people attend its third festival. By 2019 over 4,700 attended the one-day festival. Each year the festival continues to grow, and organizers select themes that support and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community in Northern Utah. Ogden Pride hopes that, “Eventually this festival will be our main fundraiser to support our youth programs.”
Their Youth OUTreach program is a social support group that meets twice a month. They also work with other partners to provide crisis support to at-risk youth and ally and advocate training to local groups. Fundraising efforts go toward the group’s planned Ogden Pride Center.
